A pop molding design is the cheapest way to make a plain room look finished. Moulding means the shaped strips used on the ceiling edge, borders, corners and walls. It needs no deep drop, so it works even in low rooms.
Below are 15 original pop molding design photos in five groups: cornice, ceiling border, corner designs, wall frames and colour ideas. Each has a room size, light plan, budget and a note for your POP wala.
Moulding pairs well with a full ceiling too. See POP wall design for feature walls and simple POP design for low cost ceilings.
Cornice Moulding POP Design
A cornice is the moulded strip where the wall meets the ceiling. It is the oldest pop cornice design idea and still the neatest finish for any room.

A three step cornice gives a crisp line all around. Works in any room with plain walls.
Contractor tip: Ask for a ready farma (mould) profile so every length matches. Mitre corners at 45 degrees.

A simple curved cove cornice softens the corner. It also hides small wall and ceiling gaps.
Contractor tip: Curve radius about 4 inch. Run it with a profile blade so the curve stays even.

A carved egg and dart band suits a tall hall with a classic feel. Keep the walls plain.
Contractor tip: Cast lengths are fixed with POP paste and screws into the wall. Fill joints and sand.
POP Border Design for Ceiling
A pop border design runs on the ceiling itself, a little in from the wall. These are simple pop border design ideas that cost little and lift a plain room.

Two thin border patti lines, 1 ft in from the wall. A low cost finish with a clean frame.
Contractor tip: Fix patti with a chalk line 12 inch from the wall. Check all four sides with a tape.

A twisted rope beading gives some detail without any drop. Good for a low hall.
Contractor tip: Rope beading is ready cast. Join lengths carefully so the twist continues.

A small step plus a groove line makes a neat double frame. Fits any room height.
Contractor tip: Step 2 inch, groove 15 mm. Strip light in the groove needs a hidden driver box.
POP Corner Design for Ceiling
Corner designs add a small motif where two border lines meet. A simple pop corner design is quick and cheap.

Leaf curls in each corner of a plain border. Gives a classic touch at very low cost.
Contractor tip: Use one cast curl and repeat it in all four corners. Same distance from both walls.

The border turns into a small stepped square at each corner. Clean and modern.
Contractor tip: Corner squares 12 x 12 inch. A spot in each needs wiring before the frame closes.

Quarter circles soften all four corners. Pairs well with a round light in the middle.
Contractor tip: Draw the quarter circles with a string from the corner. Same radius on all four.
POP Wall Moulding Design Frames
Wall frames are thin moulding strips fixed in boxes on a plain wall. This pop wall moulding design style suits a sofa wall, bed wall or passage.

Three tall box frames behind the sofa. One colour on wall and frames keeps it calm.
Contractor tip: Fix frames with a laser line. Paint wall and frames together for a single shade.

Square and rectangle panels make a headboard wall. Sage green feels restful.
Contractor tip: Keep the panel bottom line above the headboard height. Fill nail holes before paint.

Frames sized like large photo frames line a passage. Leave them empty for a clean look.
Contractor tip: Space frames evenly with 6 inch gaps. Keep all top lines on one level.
POP Molding Design Colour Ideas
Colour turns plain moulding into a feature. This section shows pop molding design colour ideas for the bedroom, hall and dining room.

Dusty pink between white beads looks soft and warm. A quiet colour for a bedroom.
Contractor tip: Paint pink first, then touch up beads in white with a small brush. Two coats each.

A thin golden bead on white moulding gives a rich look. Keep the gold narrow.
Contractor tip: Use gold only on the bead line. Wide gold looks loud and shows brush marks.

A teal cornice ties in with a teal accent wall. The white bead keeps a clean edge.
Contractor tip: Match the cornice teal to the wall paint shade card. Mask the bead before painting.
Cornice, Border, Beading: Which One to Use
| Type | Where it goes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cornice | Wall and ceiling joint | Hiding the corner gap, classic rooms |
| Ceiling border | On the ceiling, 1 to 2 ft from wall | Framing a flat ceiling without a drop |
| Beading | Thin line inside a border or frame | Fine detail and colour lines |
| Wall frames | On plain walls | Sofa wall, bed wall, passage |
For rooms under 9.5 ft, moulding is better than a full false ceiling because it keeps the height. Pair it with a light ceiling from our POP ceiling design page if you have more height.
What to Tell the POP Contractor
- Ask whether the moulding will be run on site with a profile blade or fixed as ready cast farma lengths. Ready cast is faster and more even.
- Every length should be fixed with POP paste and screws, not paste alone, on a high wall.
- Corners must be mitred cleanly. Ask to see one corner before the rest goes up.
- Check level lines with a laser before you pay. A wavy border shows from every angle.
- Let joints dry fully and sand them before primer, or hairline cracks will show.
Cost is worked out by running length (or area for wall panels) x the rate for that profile, plus paint and any gold or colour work. Plain profiles cost less than carved ones. See our price guide.
POP design questions
What is the difference between a pop border design and a cornice?
A cornice sits right in the corner where the wall meets the ceiling. A border sits on the ceiling a little in from the wall. Both can be used together in a big room.
Which pop molding design colour suits a bedroom?
Soft shades like dusty pink, sage, pale grey or warm beige suit bedrooms. Keep fine beads in white for a clean edge. Avoid wide gold or dark colours in a small room.
Is a simple pop corner design good for a low ceiling?
Yes. Corner designs and borders add almost no drop, so they keep the full room height. They suit rooms under 9.5 ft where a false ceiling would feel heavy.
Can pop wall moulding design be done on an old wall?
Yes, if the wall is dry and the plaster is sound. Fix damp and loose plaster first. Moulding on a damp wall will crack and the paint will peel.
Why does my POP cornice show cracks at the joints?
Usually the joints were not filled well or the work dried too fast. Ask for joints to be filled, taped where needed and sanded after drying, then primed before paint.
