A pop flower design puts a carved or moulded flower on the ceiling, usually around the fan or jhumar point. People also call it pop phool ki design. It is one of the oldest styles and still very popular in halls and bedrooms.
Here are 12 original flower pop design ideas: handmade medallions, painted flowers, corner flowers, carved centrepieces and readymade pieces. Each picture has a room size, light plan, budget and a note for your POP wala.
Flowers mix well with plain borders and plus minus levels. See plus minus POP design and POP colour design for more.
Handmade POP Flower Design Medallions
A handmade POP design is shaped on site by the mistri, not cast in a mould. Each flower comes out a little different, which is the charm. For depth, ask for a plus minus simple handmade POP design with raised petals.

Eight soft petals spread from the fan point. A simple handmade POP design that suits most halls.
Contractor tip: Medallion width about 3 ft. Leave a clean downrod hole; fan hook stays in the slab.

Raised lotus petals sit inside a round recess. The plus minus depth makes the flower stand out.
Contractor tip: Recess 4 inch deep, petals raised 1 inch. Check the circle is centred on the hook.

A wide sunflower with many thin petals covers the fan point. Good on a flat roof slab.
Contractor tip: Ask the mistri to draw petals in pencil first so the spacing stays even.
POP Flower Design Colour Ideas
Painting the flower adds life. Keep two or three colours at most. These show flower colour combination POP design colour ideas that still look calm.

Pink petals and green leaves on a white ceiling. A gentle hall ceiling pop flower design colour mix.
Contractor tip: Paint the flower only after the POP is fully dry. Use small brushes for petal edges.

Pale blue petals with a thin gold edge. This flower pop colour design painting looks rich but not loud.
Contractor tip: Gold only on the petal edge, 3 mm line. Seal with a clear coat so it lasts.

Peach inside a white flower outline. Easy to paint and soft for a bedroom.
Contractor tip: Two coats of peach inside the outline only. Keep the outline white and sharp.
Simple Flower Corners and Leaf Borders
Small flowers in the corners cost less than one big medallion. A leaf pop design along the border works well with them.

A small rose in each corner joined by a thin leaf vine. Light detail for a low room.
Contractor tip: Corners use one cast rose repeated four times. Vine is run by hand between them.

Small butterflies and flowers in corners suit a kids room. Paint them in light colours.
Contractor tip: Butterflies fixed with POP paste and a small screw. Keep them away from the fan blades.

A stepped border with raised leaf sprays at the corners. Simple plus minus depth.
Contractor tip: Leaf sprays raised 1 inch on the recessed step. Same spray in all four corners.
Carved Centrepieces and Readymade POP Flowers
Readymade POP design pieces are cast in a mould and fixed on site. They are quick and every piece matches. Carved centrepieces go deeper and need more height.

A readymade round ceiling rose fixed in minutes. Good when you want a finished look fast.
Contractor tip: Check the piece is not chipped before fixing. Fix with paste plus screws to the slab.

Deep carved petals cast strong shadows under warm light. Needs a tall main hall.
Contractor tip: Deep relief adds weight. Ask for extra mesh and anchors behind the centrepiece.

A lotus made of flat geometric petals in raised and recessed layers. Modern take on a flower.
Contractor tip: Petals are flat board shapes on the frame. Check the angles match before punning.
Handmade or Readymade: How to Choose
| Handmade | Readymade | |
|---|---|---|
| How made | Shaped on site by the mistri | Cast in a mould, fixed on site |
| Look | Each one a bit different | Every piece matches |
| Time | Slower | Fast |
| Skill needed | High | Medium |
For a low room, pick a flat medallion or small corner flowers. Deep carving needs a ceiling over 10 ft. Some old homes use a cement simple handmade pop design base on the roof slab; ask the mistri to keep it light, because extra weight on the slab is not needed. For plain options see simple POP design.
What to Tell Your Mistri
- The fan or jhumar hangs from a hook in the slab. The flower goes around the downrod, never under the weight.
- Ask for a pencil drawing of the petals on the ceiling before work starts.
- Heavy carved pieces need mesh and screws into the slab, not only paste.
- Let the POP dry about a week or more before paint, longer in monsoon.
- Paint colours on the flower last, with small brushes, after the base white is done.
Cost is worked out from the ceiling area x the base rate, plus a charge for each flower or medallion by its size and detail, plus colour painting. Readymade pieces cost less than deep hand carving. See our POP design price guide.
POP design questions
What is the best pop flower design for hall ceilings?
A medium medallion around the fan, about 3 to 4 ft wide, suits most halls. In a big hall a lotus in a round recess with a jhumar looks rich. Keep the rest of the ceiling plain.
Which pop flower design colour looks good?
Soft shades like pink, peach, pale blue or leaf green on white look calm. Add a thin gold edge for a rich touch. Avoid more than three colours on one flower.
Is readymade pop design cheaper than handmade?
Usually yes, because cast pieces are quick to fix. Handmade work takes more hours and skill. Very large readymade pieces can still cost more than a small handmade flower.
Can I add a pop flower design for room ceilings that are low?
Yes. Use a flat medallion or small corner flowers that add almost no drop. Skip deep carved centrepieces in rooms under 9.5 ft.
Does a butterfly pop design suit a kids room?
Yes, small butterflies and flowers in the corners look playful. Paint them in light colours and keep them clear of the fan blades.
Why do POP flowers crack or fall?
A heavy pop design flower piece fixed with paste alone can loosen. Fast drying and damp also cause cracks. Ask for screws into the slab and let the work cure before paint.
