A pooja room pop design should feel calm the moment you stand in front of it. The ceiling and back wall frame the mandir, hold the light for the diya and give a sense of a small sacred space, even when the pooja ghar is only a corner of the hall.
This gallery covers small pooja corners, mandir back walls, arches and niches, and lotus or dome ceilings. Every design leaves the shelves empty so you can arrange them your own way later. Each one has a note for your POP wala on depth, lights and finish.
The pooja room often opens off the hall or a lobby, so look at our hall POP design and lobby POP design pages to keep the style matching.
Small Pooja Room POP Design
A small pooja room pop design works in a corner or a 4 x 5 ft room. Keep the ceiling drop shallow and use one warm light. Plus minus steps of 2 inches are enough.

A single square step above a corner mandir gives it a clear frame. One warm downlight keeps the corner glowing.
Contractor tip: Drop only 3 inches. Centre the downlight over the mandir shelf, not the room.

A raised lotus border runs round a recessed square. It suits a small pooja room with a door.
Contractor tip: Cast lotus pieces in a mould so all match. Fix with POP paste and fill joints.

A thin gold line on a white ceiling keeps this pooja room pop simple design neat and low cost.
Contractor tip: Paint gold only on the raised line with a fine brush. Two warm spots, 3000K or warmer.
Mandir Back Wall in POP
The back wall is what you look at during aarti. A mandir pop design on the wall can be panels, a glowing jaali or a carved frame. See more patterns on our POP wall design page.

A jaali panel lit from behind makes a soft pattern of light behind the mandir shelf.
Contractor tip: Leave 3 inches behind the jaali for the strip light. Give access for changing the driver.

A raised frame with three empty shelves gives space for frames, lamps and flowers. Easy to keep clean.
Contractor tip: Shelves on hidden steel brackets fixed to the wall, not POP alone. Strip light under each shelf.

One large lotus in relief behind the shelf becomes the focus of the room. Keep everything else plain.
Contractor tip: Lotus relief about 1 inch deep. Light it from above at an angle so petals cast shadows.
POP Mandir Arch Design and Niches
An arch gives the mandir a temple-like entry, even in a flat. Our POP arch and pillar design page has more shapes.

A pointed arch with two slim pillars marks the entry to the pooja room from the hall.
Contractor tip: Build the arch on a GI frame. Check both pillars are plumb before the final POP coat.

Three scalloped niches give separate spots for lamps and flowers. A good pooja room design pop idea for a wall without a cabinet.
Contractor tip: Niche depth 5 inches. Use one plywood template for all three scallops.

A round arch with a carved bead border over the door makes the pooja room feel special from outside.
Contractor tip: Carved border cast in moulds. Fix the door frame first, then build the arch around it.
Lotus and Dome Pooja Room POP Ceiling Design
A lotus or dome is the classic pop design for pooja room ceiling work. It needs more height, so check the slab first. A dome is also a common pop design for temple roof areas in bigger homes. More flower shapes on our flower POP design page.

A lotus medallion inside a round recess is the most loved mandir pop design for pooja room ceiling work. The cove adds a soft halo.
Contractor tip: Needs at least 9.5 ft slab. Bell hook goes in the slab through the lotus centre.

A shallow stepped dome gives a temple feel without needing a very high slab.
Contractor tip: Dome rise about 6 inches in three rings. Each ring on its own channel; check curve with a template.

An octagon with petal shapes, half raised and half recessed, gives depth in a medium pooja room.
Contractor tip: Ask for a full-size paper drawing of the octagon. Petals 2 inches up or down only.
Choosing a Design for Your Pooja Room Size
| Space | Ceiling idea | Wall idea |
|---|---|---|
| Corner in hall | Single step square | Raised frame with shelves |
| 4 x 5 ft room | Lotus border plus minus | Niches or jaali |
| 6 x 6 ft and up | Lotus medallion or dome | Arch with pillars |
Dome and lotus ceilings need height. In a room under about 9.5 ft, keep to a border or a flat panel with a relief. A pooja room swastik pop design or swastik pop design plus minus is a common request for the ceiling centre. Ask the mistri to cast it from a clean mould so the arms are even, and keep it simple and shallow. Many homes skip carved symbols and choose a lotus or bell motif instead.
Lighting the Mandir
- Use warm light (yellow tone) only. Cool white feels harsh in a pooja room.
- Light the back wall from above or behind, not from the front, so there is no glare.
- Keep a separate switch for the cove so it can stay on at night.
- Keep the diya at least 2 ft below any POP surface. Smoke and heat stain POP over time.
- Hang bells from a slab hook, not from POP.
Care and Cost
Diya smoke leaves a grey film on white POP. Use washable paint on the ceiling and wipe it every few weeks. If cracks show near arches, they usually come from a joint or from drying too fast; ask for taped joints and slow curing.
Cost is the covered area at the quoted design rate, with lights and paint counted extra, plus extras like jaali panels, carved moulds, gold paint and lights. A flat border is the cheapest. Domes and jaali walls cost the most. See our POP design price guide for how quotes are made.
POP design questions
Which is the best pooja room pop design for a small flat?
A single step square or a lotus border plus minus ceiling suits small pooja corners. Add a raised wall frame with empty shelves. Keep one warm light over the mandir.
Can I make a swastik pop design on the pooja room ceiling?
Yes, a mistri can cast a swastik pop design simple enough to sit in the ceiling centre or above the arch. Keep it shallow and use a mould so it looks even. Paint it in one soft colour or gold.
What is a good mandir pop ceiling design for a low roof?
Skip domes in a low room. Choose a flat ceiling with a lotus relief or a thin gold border. Light it with a hidden cove so the ceiling feels taller.
Can POP be used for the pooja room back wall?
Yes. Jaali panels, raised frames, niches and lotus reliefs all work in POP. Fix heavy shelves on steel brackets in the wall, not on POP.
Is a pop mandir arch design hard to build?
Not if it is built on a proper GI frame with a template. The mistri should check the pillars are plumb and the curve is even before the final coat.
How do I stop diya smoke from staining POP?
Keep flames at least 2 ft below the ceiling and use washable paint. A small exhaust or open window helps. Wipe the area gently every few weeks.
